When I have a big album loading session, I usually get a crash at least once every five albums. All should be okay again.I usually find it difficult to add many songs at the same time (but I usually manage more than 8!). Pull out the USB cable for the device out of your PC. * Ignore the fact that your iPod says, "Do Not Disconnect Device". Hopefully this error will be fixed in a later-release of the usb mounter for the iPod. NOTE ALSO that the busy icon on the iPod may stop a couple seconds and repeat itself as much as 3-4 times until finished. DO NOT PULL OUT YOUR USB CABLE YET until it is finished synchronizing and the iPod's upper lefthand corner "busy" icon has finished spinning. * Rightclick your iPod icon off the desktop and choose Unmount Volume. * I found I could rename song titles, album titles, and so on by clicking in the fields in the bottom grid, waiting a second, and the field would go into edit mode like on a spreadsheet. Perhaps other people have had better luck, but I didn't. I had trouble when trying to add more than that at a time. * I wouldn't recommend adding more than about 8 songs at a time. DO NOT CLOSE THE APP DOWN until it is finished synchronizing and the iPod's upper lefthand corner "busy" icon has finished spinning. * Launch gtkpod and it probably will work okay without error this time. * Remove the device and plug it back in again. Then, retry the "Create iPod Directories" part. Then, reboot your PC and insert the iPod. If you have the Hold button flipped on, switch that off. If you get an error on the "Create iPod Directories" part, it might be because somehow your PC is not mounting the iPod in read/write mode. I then clicked the Sync button and quit the app. I then went to the File menu and did "Create iPod Directories". * I launched gtkpod and I get an error like yours and a few others. (I didn't know how to compile it properly from source with the latest version from CVS.) * I installed gtkpod from the 'apt' command: * If you haven't installed the MPEG encoder/decoders, consider using Automatix or some of the other scripts posted here on this site to do that. ![]() * I opened the folder for the iTunes and renamed the one containing the iTunes database. ![]() Consider this carefully before proceeding. I hope you haven't uploaded any songs to it, because I have some advice that may fix you, but may remove any previous songs you have on the device.
